Line of Events
Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is. Caught in the crosshairs when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, Helen’s employer turns to Sam to protect her. Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam gets his guns, is played by Rat Scabies, a member of the classic punk band The Damned.
Everything is going smoothly until three people are murdered one night, including Helen’s civil servant
Black Doves: Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) is a Black Dove, a private intelligence organization that plants potential political leaders for its agents. It’s a long-term position, Helen has been with her partner for 10 years, and he is now the Secretary of State for Defense. The same night, the Chinese ambassador to the UK dies, apparently from a drug overdose, and his daughter goes missing.
Flashbacks are cleverly used to inform and expand the narrative
An intriguing political conspiracy series involving the aforementioned Black Dives, MI5, gangsters, assassins and high-level political corruption. Quite violent with a number of murders, some from afar, some up close. The tension is well maintained throughout the series, with characters dying suddenly and more than one of the main actors making brief cameo appearances.
It has a great vein of dark humour
It’s absurd at times if you stop to think about it, but I found the suspension of disbelief easy to maintain. Great performances by Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw as the mysterious killer and excellent supporting actors. Created and written by Joe Barton, directed by Alex Gabassi and Lisa Gunning.
